Coca-Cola Kwanza Ltd on Friday donated 100 School desks to Mbeya Rural District in the Mbeya Region, in an initiative intended to support the government’s efforts towards improving the learning environment in rural areas.
A subsidiary of Coca-Cola Beverages Africa’s donation worth 10 million Tanzanian shillings was received by the district commissioner for Mbeya and is aimed at lifting up the education sector in rural areas and addressing the challenges of school desks shortage.
Speaking at the event, Coca-Cola Kwanza’s Plant Manager Mbeya, Mr. Robbert West said the company’s donation aimed at bringing back to the community part of the gains.
“Coca Cola Kwanza’s vision is to refresh and improve lives of Tanzanians in various sectors including the education sector. We do business the right way for a better-shared future, this support will resolve school desks shortages benefitting 200 students at a time in Usongwe Secondary School and can be used for over 10 years”, he said.
Mr. West added, “There is a great focus in the Southern Regions of Tanzania, we opened a Strategic Selling Depot (SSD) in Mbeya last year and are planning to open others to bring our products closer to the consumers’ arms reach.
The Coca-Cola Kwanza’s plant Manager (Mbeya) urged other institutions, stakeholders, and non-government organizations to work together and support the government’s efforts in finding solutions to community problems.
On his part, Mbeya District Commissioner Mr. Dr. Rashid Chuachua said the donation of desks from Coca-cola Kwanza demonstrate the good and healthy relations between the government and the private sector which is benefitting the community and the donation of desks has come at the right time when we have a huge number of students in class due to free education.
Since launching the initiative of making School desks as part of its corporate social responsibility, Coca-Cola Kwanza Ltd has made and distributed over 3,500 desks to various schools, impacting the lives of over 6,500 students at a time.
